Coram Voice supports National Care Leavers' Week 2018
Coram Voice is proud to support National Care Leavers' Week which starts today (24 October).
Over the next seven days we will be promoting the various ways we help care leavers, making sure that their voices are heard and that they are empowered and informed through our various tools and services.
We run 'Always Heard', a national advocacy and advice service for children and young people, which helps looked after children and care leavers to find out about advocacy services in their area. Our Always Heard advocates help care leavers to understand their rights and get their voices heard.
For professionals, our Always Heard advocacy ‘safety net’ and advice service supports local authorities to meet the needs of children and young people in their area who are seeking advocacy.
Other services and resources for care leavers include:
- Our specialist 16+ advocate - our specialist advocate gives advice to young people, advocates and other professionals on issues related to leaving care
- Our ‘Am I a Care Leaver’ tool - an easy to use online tool to help care leavers understand what support they should receive from Children’s Services
- Our FAQs – answers to care leavers’ frequently asked questions on financial support, education, training and staying with foster families
- Our ‘Sorted & Supported’ guide – download our free guide to leaving care entitlements, helping young people to navigate the leaving care maze
This National Care Leavers' Week, we’re also incredibly excited to announce the return of our creative writing competition for young people in and leaving care, open from 10 December 2018 to 10 February 2019.
Every year we receive fantastic pieces of writing amplifying and celebrating the voices of the care system. Sign up for our newsletter to be the first to hear more about the competition!
