Exploring Expertise: How does the Bright Spots Programme help local authorities to listen to the voices of their children and young people?

A video of Dr Claire Barker, Senior Practice Advisor at Coram Voice, highlighting how a focus on well-being can help us understand what matters most to children in care and care leavers.

The Bright Spots Programme is a partnership between Coram Voice and the University of Oxford, funded by the Hadley Trust. It supports local authorities to systematically listen to their children in care and care leavers, about the things that are important to them.

How does Bright Spots work?

Bright Spots has three underlying principles:

  1. Focus on what children and young people say about their lives and what is important to them.
  2. Ensure the views and experiences of children influence service development and strategic thinking.
  3. Share good practice between local authorities by encouraging opportunities for learning and development.
