Homelessness: Advocacy and Children’s Rights

This two part course takes place on 14 and 21 September 2026 10 – 12:30pm

It will provide an opportunity to discuss the experiences of children who are homeless and the barriers they may face. We will discuss how professionals can safeguard and advocate on behalf of, and utilise case law to ensure rights of children who are homeless are upheld.

In the two part course we will:

  1. Consider how children become homeless and what their legal entitlements are
  2. Look at Case law, specifically the “Southwark Judgement” to understand the legal responsibilities of the local authority
  3. Explore best and ‘concerning’ practice and how we can recognise this
  4. Discuss legal advice, complaints and further escalation options

Suitable for those with little to no knowledge on the topic, and for those who are interested in a refresher.
