Amplify Awards 2024: Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole – Voices through the storm

The Children in Care Council designed, developed and filmed a library of resources focused on mental health, to help other children in care.

Why?

The ANV AMPLIFY awards aim to champion and recognise the work of children in care councils and care leaver forums. They were held in October 2024 (Amplify – Coram Voice) – BCP’s Children in Care Council, Voices through the Storm, were nominated for the ‘Digital award’.

What?

  • This group of young people designed, developed and filmed a library of resources for other children in care.
  • This library is an online resource toolbox which children in care from across the country can access.
  • These resources are bite-sized accessible videos which young people can watch, follow along with and learn from. All of the resources focus on a specific area to do with mental health. 
  • All of the resources have been created by young people who have leant on their own lived experiences, knowledge and creativity.

What difference did it make?

  • Children have gained new skills in multimedia, script development and writing, communication skills, teamwork and much more.
  • Young people have learned how to recognise and manage their own mental health and how to use their experiences to support others. 
  • Children feel more able to engage in other aspects of their lives including education and social activities as they have gained techniques to help them manage their own wellbeing. 
  • Children and young people showcased their skills to Corporate Parents and notable guests at a launch event.
