Amplify Awards 2024: Middlesbrough – Care Ambassadors

Care Ambassadors are supported by the council to be a voice for care-experienced young people in their area.

Why?

The ANV AMPLIFY awards aim to champion and recognise the work of children in care councils and care leaver forums. They were held in October 2024 (Amplify – Coram Voice) – Middlesbrough Care Ambassadors were nominated for the ‘Participation award’.

What?

Care Ambassadors are young people who volunteer their time to sit on the ‘You Matter to Us’ Corporate Parenting Board in Middlesbrough. They are supported by the council to be a voice for care-experienced young people in the area.

Two care-experienced young adults came forward to take on this role, and they are co-opted onto the ‘You Matter to Us’ Board. They write and present a report at each meeting. They work with the Voice and Influence Manager to co-deliver the ‘We Matter’ group, they relaunched the local care leaver forum, they go into schools to deliver engagement with students with educational needs and disabilities, they co-deliver sessions with students in alternative educational settings and co-deliver the fortnightly Youth Council.
