Amplify Awards 2024: Barnsley Care4Us Council – Performance piece to highlight youth voice

Young people created a performance piece to express their experience of care and to highlight to workers the importance of listening to youth voice on care-related matters.

Why?

The ANV AMPLIFY awards aim to champion and recognise the work of children in care councils and care leaver forums. They were held in October 2024 (Amplify – Coram Voice) – Barnsley’s Care4Us Council were nominated for the ‘Voice award’.

What?

Children and young people collaborated to create a performance piece for the Corporate Parenting Panel, expressing their care experiences through poems, songs and drama. The Care4Us Council and other care-experienced youth shared insights on social workers, family time and the importance of being heard. The project included feedback from Barnsley’s Bright Spots survey, and was filmed for wider distribution within the Council, to emphasise the significance of youth voices in care-related matters.

What difference did it make?

The Care4Us Council have supported care-experienced children and young people to have a voice, thay have shared their voice with corporate parents, social workers and team managers to influence change at a strategic level for all care-experienced children and young people.
