Disability Outreach Project

Do you know a young person with autism or a learning disability, who would benefit from having an advocate? We are offering a new non-statutory advocacy service for disabled young people, who are not in care or care leavers, based in and around London.

Coram Voice is  an established advocacy provider for children and young people in care, and care leavers. We provide support to make sure young people’s rights are upheld, and their wishes and voices are heard. We are already skilled in specialist advocacy to support young people with a range of disabilities, including those who lack capacity to instruct an advocate or have limited verbal communication.

We want to extend this service to benefit other young people who are not in care or care leavers. Thanks to some new funding, we have the opportunity to support a limited number of disabled children and young people, who are not eligible for statutory advocacy services.

Social care focused advocacy

In line with our existing expertise, the advocacy will be social care focused and young person led.

Some examples of issues we might advocate on are:

• The transition from children’s to adults social care, including the need for planning for a suitable adult placement or care package.
• The right to support for young people who are living at home.
• The right to specialist equipment or adaptations to the home, or more suitable accommodation for a disabled child.
• Access to suitable activities or education.
