Coram Voice is excited to share an interview with one of our A National Voice Award winners from 2023. Somerset in Care and Somerset Leaving Care Councils were nominated for and won first place in our Collaboration Award category.
Here, we meet Fiona, who shares more details about the work that young people got involved in, including ensuring there are enough local children’s homes so Somerset children aren’t moved out of the area. Young people were involved from the start.
Following the acquisition of the children’s homes, they supported the process by finding and interviewing trusted partners, hearing first hand from staff and young people with experience in residential homes, naming the new homes, deciding how they were furnished, engaging with the local communities where the homes were established, and so much more!
