It’s important that you are happy where you live.
When you first move placement it can feel strange to be living in a new place and this can make you feel unsettled for a little while. Sometimes you might be unhappy even after you have had time to settle in.
There are lots of reasons why you might feel unhappy but some of the most common ones are:
- Not liking your new carers.
- Missing the people that are important to you like your friends and family, or your old carers.
- Having to change school or being out of education for a while after moving.
Moving process
Before being moved they must talk to:
- You
Your social worker should always speak to you about any move and find out your wishes and feelings.
Even if the placement is far away, they should give you the option to visit the placement first, so you can see what it is like before they make the final decision.
- Your Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO)
With any move, your IRO needs to make sure that the plans your social worker makes are good for you and that everything is done properly. If they don’t agree with the move they can challenge the decision.
Moving far away
If they want to move you a long way away, your social worker must always talk to the Director of Children’s Services (the Big Boss) to get their permission.
