The Grand Campaign – Setting up Home Allowance (SUHA) Webinar

Are you a professional working with care leavers, or a care leaver directly impacted by the Setting Up Home Allowance (SUHA)?

Don’t miss A National Voices webinar, where we explore the findings of The Grand Campaign: A National Voice’s latest report on the challenges faced by care leavers across England.

In response to the government’s increase of the SUHA from £2,000 to £3,000 on 1 April 2023, a Freedom of Information (FOI) request revealed vast disparities in how this allowance is provided. The lack of clear national guidelines has left care leavers with inconsistent support, with some receiving as little as £1,500 while others benefit from nearly £3,500.

Key Highlights of the Report:

Many care leavers are missing out on essential items and support.
Over a quarter of local authorities have no written policy on the allowance.
One in ten authorities aren’t offering the full £3,000, despite the government mandate.
Confusing policies and a “postcode lottery” have left many young people struggling during one of the most important transitions of their lives.
