Pathway Planning: who, what, when?

From the age of 16, all children in care and care leavers up to age 21/25 are entitled to a pathway plan. From our work with children and young people over many years, we know pathway plans, whether the failure to provide one, or the issue with the content remain a huge issue for children and young people in and leaving care.

This one hour masterclass is intended to give a brief yet detailed snapshot on what pathway planning is, what we can do as advocates to support young people in the process and how to challenge a poor plan.

The Masterclass, will be delivered by Scarlett Cowling, Specialist Advocate 16+.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the Masterclass, you should be able to:

1.           Feel confident you understand what a pathway is, who is entitled and what it should include

2.           To be able to recognise what makes a good and poor quality plan

3.           To be able to support young people with understanding the importance of the plan, how to participate and how to challenge a poor plan

4.           To use legislation and case law to challenge failure to provide or plan appropriately

The very first session of the new masterclass will be delivered on Wednesday June 19th 2024: 11:00am – 12:15pm. This will be a virtual masterclass and no prior reading is required.
